Tricky Words for Year 1 (Scholastic Magnets)

The words on these magnets are known as "common exception words" or "tricky words." These words either contain sounds with an uncommon or irregular spelling. Or they can contain sounds which the children have not been taught yet.

Children need to know these words early on in their phonics teaching so that they are able to read simple books and stories. These magnets can help you to support children's recognition of these words. There are some blank magnets included so you can add your own.
