At the turn of the millennium, editorial assistant Clodagh “Clo” Harmon wants nothing more than to rise through the ranks at the world’s most prestigious fashion magazine. She’s surrounded by beautiful, wealthy, impossibly well-connected “show horses” who seem to advance effortlessly, including her beguiling cubicle-mate Davis Lawrence. Clo doesn’t have the right pedigree, and everywhere she looks she sees the invisible advantage of class, appearance, and legacy.

As her ambition takes increasingly risky turns, she finds herself navigating a world of expense accounts, subtext-filled hallways, and shifting alliances. But who is Clo underneath the borrowed designer clothes and carefully curated image — and what do we all sacrifice for the sake of “getting ahead”?
