Despite all the evidence to the contrary, Gene firmly believes that Ryu is alive somewhere and will dutifully return to her. Or rather, him - as the tragedy that separated Gene from Ryu has again caused Gene to switch genders! Though despondent, Gene tries to go back to living life as a normal teenaged boy.
